This meticulously crafted reproduction of the Eglinton “Pinch of Snuff” Basket Hilt Broadsword is modeled after the original housed in the Royal Ontario Museum. Named after its appearance in an 18th-century painting by William Delacour, this type of sword was a trusted sidearm of Scottish Highland officers—most notably the 78th Fraser's Highlanders.
Hand-forged from durable C60 high carbon steel (comparable to 1060 steel), the blade offers both strength and resilience. The hallmark of this sword lies in its striking, full steel basket hilt—a beautiful, protective guard with intricate cutouts that exude Highland elegance and utility. The grip features a leather-wrapped wooden core with inlaid braided steel wire, giving it both historical authenticity and a firm, confident hold.
Completing the set is a thick leather scabbard, reinforced with a polished steel chape and throat fitting for belt carry or display.
The Eglinton “Pinch of Snuff” Scottish Officer’s Broadsword is more than just a sword—it's a legacy of Highland courage, craftsmanship, and culture. Whether for reenactment, collection, or historical display, this broadsword is a bold, beautiful reminder of Scotland's warrior past.

The “Pinch of Snuff” nickname comes from a painting circa 1750, where an officer of the 78th Highland Regiment enjoys a moment of leisure with a sword of this exact style resting at his side. These basket-hilted swords were symbols of both rank and martial heritage in the Scottish Highlands and were carried by clansmen and officers alike through the Jacobite uprisings and into the ranks of the British Army.
