Civil War Wool Kepi - Cap. The word kepi is from the French meaning small cap. The first official version of the Kepi was introduced to the U.S. Army in 1858. The dark blue Kepi was formally called a forage cap and was nicknamed bummers cap by the troops due to its baggy shape. The Kepi was also worn by many troops in dark blue, shades of gray and butternut. Our Civil War Kepi in Gray is perfect for Civil War reenactors and available in three sizes. Made from wool, these Civil War Caps are lined with cotton fabric and have a leather headband.
