Large Viking Cloak Clasp

Our Large Viking Cloak Clasp measures 5 1/2 inches long by 1 1/4 inches wide. On the back of this clasp are two hooks on one side and two rings on the other. The clasp is closed by hooking them together. There are also five rings on each side of the clasp which allow you to attach it securely to you cloak. It is a great costume accessory to any Medieval or Renaissance garb. This is made in fine lead free pewter in the USA. The Large Viking Cloak Clasp design is based on the bed posts of a bed found in a historical dig.

The banks of the Oslo Fjord in Norway were used by the Vikings for burials. The richest such burial in Scandinavia is in Oseberg. It was excavated by Gabriel Gustafson in 1904. The ship was built almost entirely of oak, and measuring 70.5 feet long, 17 feet broad, and 4.9 feet deep. The grave chamber timbers have been dated to 834 AD. Two women were found buried in the ship, one aged 60-70 and the other 25-30; based on this, and the name of the nearby town, some have suggested the elderly woman was Queen Aasa, mentioned in the Viking poem Ynglingatal.
