The Houppelande was an ample draped medieval outer garment worn during the middle ages with it’s height of fashion in the mid 14th century to early fifteenth century. Mainly a male garment, the Houppelande was worn by both men and women. These medieval garments were very full and usually belted in the middle to form pleating. Houppelandes were made from many lengths between the knee to ground level with front or side openings and many different style arms. Usually made from rich fabrics with contrasting lining the sleeves were large with dagged edges.
