In the 16th century, the Italian runka retained the simple elegance of its Gothic roots. Its large, uniformly tapered diamond section middle spike is very similar in form and function to the sword blades used at that time. The Runka could be used in much the same way as a broad sword. The crescent shaped base lugs were sharpened on both edges and were equally menacing and capable of unseating a mounted knight. This weapon was designed to slip between the plates of armour and with the leverage provided by the haft or pole rip and tear all but the thickest parts of the armor plates. The lugs could easily cut the interior leathers which held the armour plates together. Our Functional Runka is hand forged from steel, wooden pole available. Approximately 77" Overall length. Shipping time is normally between 4 to 12 weeks.
