I had bought this on Ebay before realizing I could look up this shop's site. Back in early January I had bought this for my brother to be part of his serf-themed SCA garb. I had needed something leather but cheaper and in a hurry. I was worried about ending up with one of those cheap, flimsy belts. I was pleasantly surprised with the belt having a sturdy, hardened leather length. Near the buckle it's kept soft, which is great when folding it over for that medieval belt knot. While I was putting together the garb, this was used at my brother's first-ever event, and I made sure he looked good. The biggest plus was that this belt starts out at 72 inches, and in spite of the leather being hardened, you can still cut it down with very sharp scissors. I'd used a rotary cutter straight across, but if you have heavy-duty scissors it will cut it just as easily. Make sure you put the belt on first -with- the fold-over knot, then mark the place to cut at with some chalk. Mark the shape you want, tapered or square, then make your cut. I highly suggest this belt over the ring belt for SCA or stricter re-enactment events, because a buckle is more authentic. This buckle is great if you're wanting to stay low-key or dress as a serf or servant. Ring belts are fine for Renaissance fairs that aren't too strict. This one is more forgivable if it's your first event and your kingdom is strict. For more laid back kingdoms, this is fine for anyone. For 20 dollars, why not go for this? I plan on buying the mahogany with a brass buckle for my working-class garb. I might even just buy a black one later on for everyday mundane wear!
