Spangenhelm. Mainstays of the Viking - Celtic era. Spangenhelms are characterized by their construction, whereby steel strips (spangen) are used to join the steel plates of the cap. For strength and safety, steel rivets are used to attach the overlying banding and straight nose-guard (nasal), and riveted cheek guards. A chainmail neck and top of shoulders guard (full aventail) is attached.
