The Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon were also known as the Knights Templar. The Knights Templar were among the most famous of the Crusader Knights. They were founded after the First Crusade of 1096, to ensure the safety of pilgrims on the way to Jerusalem.

Templar knights in their distinctive white mantles with red cross were among the best fighting units of the Crusades. When the Crusaders ended and the Holy Land was lost, support for the Templars faded. Rumors about the Templars and King Philip IV of France, deeply in debt to the Order, eventually ended in the disbanding of the Order. The legends of the Knights Templar still abound to the present day.
