Roman Helmets Page IV

By The Sword is proud to offer you our line of Roman helmets. These helmets have been developed by Mr. Dan Peterson (author/historian/re-enactor) and are some of the finest production Roman Helms on the market. The helms are made from 18-gauge brass and steel and are designed to fit the needs of Roman Period Re-enactment groups as well as collectors.

Royal Corinthian Helm W/ Plume

Ref: AH-6058-PR
Corinthian helmets originally from Greece were carried to Greek colonies in Sicily, Italy and Spain. Traces have also been found in Celtic graves. This helmet represents a fully refined example from around 400 BC, and is finished with a blackened finish and brass ornaments. The plume is natural horsehair. The Royal Corinthian Helmet matches our AH-6071-R Royal Muscle Cuirass.

Throughout the 5th and 4th century BC, the Greek Helmet continued to evolve, still with a view to improving ventilation, hearing and vision, without sacrificing protection. The ''Chalcidian'' helmet continued to be very popular, but improved versions as shown by Deepeeka, with a cranial ridge for better protection appeared. Some pieces also had ear hinges for cheek pieces. The nasal piece also became smaller and disappeared from some of these helmets, giving rise to the ''Attic'' style of helmets.

Nider Mormter Helmet

Ref: AH-6304
The Legionary Helmet from Niedermormter, Rheinisches Landesmuseum, Bonn. This late 2nd- 3rd century helmet is the latest example of the Roman imperial helmets and is clearly derived from the 1st- Century Imperial Italic Helmets. Russell Robinson classes these as Imperial Italic 'H'. Infantry helmets are not found again until the 4th century. These bear no relationship to the earlier types. Made from steel and brass or chose ALL BRASS!
