By The Sword Catalog : Art Work : Portraits : Queen Anne of Cleves Portrait ANNE1

Queen Anne of Cleves Portrait

Ref: ANNE1
Our Queen Anne of Cleves Portrait is an interpretation of Anne, sister to the Duke of Cleves, who became the fourth Queen of Henry VIII in January 1540. Flattering portraits had persuaded Henry to agree to marry Anne, However, on her arrival in England, She Failed to meet with Henry's expectations. He unkindly referred to her as the "Flanders Mare". Henry obtained a divorce from Anne after six months of marriage in June 1540. The original portrait is attributed to Barthel Bruyn the Elder.
