Pole Axe Ref: 600640 We ran across this axe in a private collection and immediately decided we needed to replicate it. With a long history of use, the pole axe was very popular in the lists, with the winner being decided by the number of blows fairly struck. It was also used in serious duels, where the winner was the one who could walk away from the field. But even so, it was also quite popular for use on the field of battle. At 68" in length, the pole axe (also called a poll axe, since it was used to hit the head) was quite handy. With a good sharp point it could be used as a short spear, the back hammer or spike could be used to batter or pierce armor, and the axe head itself was quite lethal. This is a superb copy, with a high carbon blade and langets to protect the shaft. A magnificent example of a polearm. Overall 68", Wt. 1 lb. 8 oz.

Viking Halberd Ref: 600592 One of the more deadly weapons used by the Vikings was the halberd, or bill as it was sometimes referred to. It is generally agreed that the actual viking term was -mail piercer. Sadly there are none known to exist, so this reconstruction is based on details of the various sagas, and on a few axes that are known to have blades "like a halberd". This weapon was a favorite of Gunnar of Hlidesrend, Throlf Skallagrimson, Egil Skallagrimson, and many other Viking warriors. In one battle Thorolf loses his temper, takes his halberd in both hands, and starts cutting down the enemy. He fights his way to the standard, cuts down the standard bearer, cuts the standard pole in half, then stabs the Earl through the body, lifts him up by the blade, and jams the staff into the ground so that the Earl dies for all to see. Made from high carbon steel. This is a must for any of those interested in the viking warriors of the North. No express delivery available. Overall-80" * Blade-28" long, 2 3/4" wide. 3/16" stock * Wt-4 1/2 lbs.

German Foot Solider's War Axe Ref: 600604 The foot soldier of the 14th century was confronted by more and more armor, used by both nobles and the mercenaries of the time. Although only the richest knights could afford full plate , everyone would put on as much protection as they could. This two hand axe is taken from the book, "Armeria Della Rocca" and is a tough, functional weapon. In the brutal, wild maelstrom of close combat, this axe could crush armor and smash mail. Shaft is a very strong hardwood. Overall-48" . Blade-10 1/2"

Thin Pilum Ref: AH-3527 When the swords wouldn't do, the Roman soldiers relied heavily on their Pilum, which was essentially a long spear (javellin) .The Pilum could either be thrown, or used in hand combat. Square Pilum Ref: AH-3526 The Roman trooper typically carried at least one Pilum, a weapon as intrinsic to Roman combat tactics as the short sword. The Pilum had a long, relatively soft iron shaft which, though certainly capable of penetrating its intended target, was likely to bend on striking armour or the ground, thus making it useless to be thrown back. A common tactic when using the Pilum against troops with shields was to pierce the opponent's shield, whereupon the shaft would bend, making extraction difficult. The opposing soldier, thus encumbered, was likely to throw down his shield, losing his defense against the infamous Roman short sword.MEASUREMENTS: Head 28", Pole 54"

Weighted Pilum (Square) Ref: AH-3525 Square Pilum-principle weapon of the Roman Legionnaire, was well designed to destroy the ability of the opponent's shield defense. The short head could easily penetrate a wooden shield, and the long neck prevented the head from being cut off. Thus encumbered, the shield was rendered useless, leaving the opponent unprotected. Made of mild steel, it would easily bend, preventing it from being thrown back. Our replica is weighted to aid penetration, common about 100 A.D. The short head could easily penetrate a wooden shield, and the long neck prevented the head from being cut off. Thus encumbered, the shield was rendered useless, leaving the opponent unprotected. Made of mild steel, it would easily bend, preventing it from being thrown back (when the heat of the battle had subsided, it could be retrieved and straightened).
