Riveted Mail Hauberk

Ref: 300108
We are proud to offer an affordable version of the most authentic hauberk available! The riveted 16 gauge steel links are combined in the International pattern of 4 links through a 5th and each link is dipped in zinc to prevent rust. The hauberk measures 54" around and is approximately mid-thigh length.

Was $695 Now: $595.00

Riveted Mail Coif

Ref: 300126
Comes with the same features as the Riveted Mail Hauberk. The most sought after and difficult mail to make. End of each mild steel link is flattened and riveted. Prized for its durability. Dipped in zinc to prevent rust.

Was $245 Now: $195.00

Mail Bishop's Mantle
A favorite of the Swiss and Landsknechts during the later Middle Ages and the Renaissance, this light armor was called a bishop's mantle because of its similarity to the vestments worn by priests. In the press of battle most blows would be directed downward (it was only when the press cleared and the cleanup began that blows were directed at the legs) and this mantle gave good protection without a great deal of weight. It was also quite flexible and did not hinder the shoulders or arms in battle. We are pleased to offer two examples of this important piece of armor. 25 1/2" neck opening.

Mail Bishop's Mantle (A)

Ref: 300078
Steel rings - 8 1/2" width. Wt. 6 lbs.

Mail Gauntlets

Ref: 300008
To protect the back of the hand, we have added mail on our black leather gauntlets and also placed slightly cupped steel lames all around the cuff. These gauntlets offer good protection to the hand, wrist and lower arm from a sword slash or draw cut. There are a pair much like these at the Art Institute of Chicago that are highly decorative, however we have left ours plain to keep the price down and to allow them to be correct for a very long period of history from the Early Middle Ages well into the Renaissance.

Per Pair: $75.00

Hero's Mail
Hero's Mail-a
The smaller and finer the rings, the better the protection. We are proud to offer the peak of the armorer's art (and patience) as it pertains to mail. Butted, 17 gauge steel rings are only 3/16" round offering unsurpassed protection. Incredibly dense, the rings provide ultimate defense against what may come your way. All warriors of the period prized this type of mail - it was purchased by the few who could afford it and presented to the hero that earned it.

Ref: 300188
The least expensive mail we've ever offered! Mail was celebrated in poetry and the sagas, being referred to as the "War Shirt of Odin", the "Byrnie, hard and hand linked" and the "Net of Battle". Made by Windlass Steelcrafts (who produce some of our helmets). The Coif-can be worn with or without a helmet. 16 gauge steel; 3/8 inch rings. Please, note: your coif will come in a thick coat of oil as a protectant, but even this is no guarantee that some surface rust may occur. You will find cleaning instructions included. Wt.-5 lbs. 8 oz.

(See Figure A Below)

Price: $95.00

Butted Steel Shirt

Ref: 300170
This handsome shirt measures approximately 36 inches from the top of the shoulders to the hem line. Sleeves hang to just below the elbow on most average-height warriors. Please, note: although your shirt is well protected in a thick layer of oil, some surface rust may occur. This can be cleaned by using the instructions included. Mild steel rings are similar to the originals. Weight approximate-23 lbs. We recommend keeping this mail oiled at all times.

Blackened Steel
Blackened Steel
Intimidating butted armor, blackened for moisture resistance. Reminiscent of the Black Prince, who purposefully let his mail darken to a blackish hue. Mild steel rings are 3/8" inner diameter and butted, then dipped in black lacquer. 16 gauge.

Flattened Steel
Flattened Steel-A
No one knows for sure where and when mail was invented. The first mail was rings of wire, riveted together, with 4 rings passing through a fifth. There have been all sizes of rings and wire, some so fine that the mail was like liquid steel, and others very large, thick and quite heavy, as is our version that we are offering. The wire has been flattened into washers to produce a much denser weave. Only a strong warrior can bear up under this very strong mail shirt. It is very doubtful that a sword would be able to cut through this mail. Tournament proven by jousting World Champion, Lloyd Clark. He relies on this shirt to keep both sword and lance at bay. It has also been dip galvanized so it will resist rust. 16 gauge steel.
