Western Dagger Ref: 401162 In the Old West not everyone was carrying bowie knives, but they still liked their knives large. This is a good example of a knife that put more sharp steel into the hand. It is well-known that David Crockett, a few years earlier, carried a dagger as his first choice. Often one edge was used for rough work while the other was kept razor sharp in case it was needed. This big dagger's based on an 1860's era design. The well-tempered high carbon steel blade is 1 1/2" wide and 10" long. The furniture is brass and the grip is real polished bone. The whole dagger weighs less than a pound. For easy carrying, a leather scabbard with brass throat and tip is included.

Hunting Trousse Ref: 401720 In the Middle Ages most of the nobility were devoted hunters. It was a sport that also helped train for war as well as providing meat for the table. All of the huntsmen would prepare themselves for the hunt with a trousse. This large knife was used to dispatch the wounded animal, then dress out and carve the carcass. Sometimes the trousse was accompanied by a fork and a small knife for camp dining. Our trousse has a 12" long, 2" wide blade that will take and keep a razor edge. Both it and the small knife are made of high carbon steel, as is the fork. Furniture is steel, while the grip is polished buffalo horn.

Anelace Ref: 401434 Like the earlier Coustille, the Anelace was a weapon that filled the void between the dagger and short sword. Contemporary to the Italian Cinquedea, the Anelace was often carried at an angle at the small of the back and would be the only weapon carried in cities, at court, traveling on horseback or riding during the hunt. This well balanced blade was of a size that one could use it to defend against a sword, but it could still pass as a dagger. Antiqued brass parts paired with a handcarved hardwood grip, this attractive piece comes with a decorative scabbard with a button on the throat to ride firmly when worn thrust through a belt. Made from well tempered, high carbon steel. Scabbard included.Overall-24" Blade-18" long, 2 3/4" wide, 3/16" thick Wt-1 lb. 10 oz.

Venetian Stiletto Ref: 400994 On a recent trip to Venice, we were touring the Doge's Palace and admiring the weapons when a particularly beautiful stiletto caught our eye. Centuries old, its elegantly crafted contours and unique triangular blade were obviously shaped by a master - someone who knew his work and knew form and function as well; for the dagger shone with a positively happy wickedness. Stilettos came in many sizes, from delicate little hideout weapons to forthright long daggers suitable for use even as a main gauche, but this is certainly one of the more attractive ones we've come across. Each blade face is beautifully hollowed. Grip is wood. Comes complete with sheath. Overall-13 ¾ " Blade-8 ¾ " long, Wt.-7 oz .

Sword Hilted Dagger Ref: 401044-S As useful as the dagger was as a sidearm, it was just as useful for everyday tasks - including eating. We're not so sure about eating with this one, because it might be a bit large. Still, that doubtlessly made it even better as a companion to a sword or a backup weapon. The high carbon steel blade is hand forged. Brass pommel and guard. The wood hilt is wrapped with cord and covered with leather. It comes complete with leather scabbard. Seax Ref: 401022 The seax, or sax, was the universally carried knife in Northern Europe. It was carried and used by the Saxons, Angles, Vikings and Germanic tribes. Its use probably dates before the fall of Rome and continues on into the early Middle Ages. It came in many sizes, from small knives with 3-4 inch blades, to actual swords with blades of 27-28 inches. Always single-edged, the profile of the seax varied a great deal. We have produced a knife of a type that can be seen in the British Museum. This is a beautiful and very efficient knife. The originals were general purpose knives, for camp work to cutting work, on shipboard, and for fighting if it so happened that a sword or axe was not available. The lobed pommel and guard are brass, and the wood grip is studded with brass tacks, for a very secure and comfortable grip. The blade is etched on both sides, flat ground, and capable of taking a razor sharp edge. The leather sheath is riveted and laced like the originals. Two slots are provided for thongs to tie to the waist belt. Overall-19" * Blade-13" long, 1 5/8" wide, 1/8" thick * Wt.-1 lb.

Early Scottish Dirk Ref: 400508 The Scottish Dirk was a direct descendent of the Medieval ballock dagger. The grip form began to change, probably sometime in the late 16th century, but soon developed a form that was purely Scottish. The later versions that are quite popular, are somewhat debased in form, and not the pure fighting weapon of the early version. And make no mistake about it, this dirk was a pure fighting knife, and unabashedly so. The blade was long and single-edged. Made to use alone, with a shield and sword, or just with a basket-hilt claymore. We have replicated an early version of the dirk. We has done an excellent job in its forging and carving ...and the hardwood handle is carved with a chevron like pattern copied from an original of the same time period. For those with a serious interest in the Highlands, this is a must for any collection. Comes complete with scabbard. CIRCA 1700 Overall-21 inches * Blade-14 7/8 inches long, 1 7/16 inches wide * Wt.-1 lb.

SGIAN DUBH Ref: 400910 A Scottish tradition, the original Sgian Dubhs were frequently worn under the shirt close to the armpit. Now it is traditional for the Sgian Dubh to be worn in the stocking of the Highlander, and the knife is frequently called a "stocking dirk". The term "Sgian Dubh" itself actually means black handled knife. Our Sgian Dubh which weighs less than 2 oz., has a black wooden handle that is carved on one side, smooth on the other. Embossed nickel silver fittings feature a thistle motif. Comes with sheath. Overall-6 9/16" . Blade-3 1/4" long, 3/4" wide

Roman Pugio Ref: 401392 The distinct shape of the Pugio blade was excellent for a close quarters fight, and was used throughout the legions. Although swords and knives were generally not worn by civilians within the boundaries of the "Pax Romana", barbarians and bandits were certainly to be round in the outlands, and a merchant or trader best go armed. No doubt many an old legionnaire must have found it easier to keep his balance with the familiar eight on his hip as he worked his farm in new won territory. A wood hilt is paired with a fully tempered high carbon steel blade. Comes complete with a wood scabbard covered in leather with brass parts. Based on remains in the British Museum.
