Price: $167.00

Our new "Port Bei Nidau" Celtic Helmet was named after the place in Switzerland where it was found. These types of helmets were most commonly in use during the 1st century BC. The original Celtic helmet was made from Iron. Our version is made from steel. The shell of the helm is deep and full. The front is circled by a brim and the back has a short neckgaurd.

Port helmets are distinguished from Agen type helmets by features such as embossed eyebrow designs and a rim that was lower, closer to ear-level. The cheek pieces are of a different shape than the older Celtic helmet types. These helmets were the inspiration for the Imperial Roman Gallic type helmets.

The Celtic helmet design had a great influence on Roman armourers. Celtic Helmets were not issued as with the Roman army. A Celtic warrior had a helmet only if he bought one, or claimed one from the battlefield.
