Roman Sword

Ref: SH2032
In the third century BC, Rome fought against the Iberian Celts and their iron weapons, gaining so much respect for the ir short swords that they adopted the design as their own. The sword that eventually conquered most of the then-known world evolved from the Gladius Hispanicus - Spanish sword. Originally a stabbing weapon, the Gladius quickly became a cut-and-thrust sword, with a long point and a slightly "waisted" blade - arguably the most elegant of Roman sword types. Our Gladius is based on the "waisted" pattern, its light blade and typical wooden guard and pommel making for a very quick sword. The segmented bone grip and beautifully detailed scabbard with battle scenes in bas-relief complete a sword that any legionary would have been proud to own.

KEY FEATURES:
* Simple, uncluttered lines
* Fully functional
* Excellent handling

MEASUREMENTS:
BLADE LENGTH: 22 3/4” HANDLE LENGTH: 7 3/4” OVERALL LENGTH: 30 1/2” WEIGHT: 3lb 6oz

Roman Pilum

Ref: XH2031
The Roman trooper typically carried at least one Pilum, a weapon as intrinsic to Roman combat tactics as the short sword. The Pilum had a long, relatively soft iron shaft which, though certainly capable of penetrating its intended target, was likely to bend on striking armor or the ground, thus making it useless to be thrown back. A common tactic when using the Pilum against troops with shields was to pierce the opponent’s shield, whereupon the shaft would bend, making extraction difficult. The opposing soldier, thus encumbered, was likely to throw down his shield, losing his defense against the infamous Roman short sword. Our Pilum is of the traditional flanged type and may be disassembled for ease of transportation to events. Measurements are only approximate.

KEY FEATURES:
* Historically accurate
* Fully functional
* Transportable

MEASUREMENTS:
BLADE LENGTH: 30.5"
HANDLE LENGTH: 47.5"
OVERALL LENGTH: 78"

Price: $108.00
