6th Century Close Helmet

Ref: 300130
The armorer aimed to provide better and better protection as the development of the helmet continued across the centuries. He had comfort to fret over, too, since the safest helmet in the world was totally useless if it didn't provide enough ventilation or nobody wore it. The highly functioning and effective close helmet was created towards the end of the era of the sword. This fully operable replica has a leather liner, hooks easily, and is very easy to wear. Collar protection is substantial. 18 gauge steel. Head circumference is 27". Neck opening is 21". Wt. 7 lbs, 14 oz. Circa 1550 AD.

Salled With Bevor

Ref: 300148
Suitable for foot or mounted combat, this two-tiered helmet was prized by both knights and men-at-arms. The Salade (or English Sallet), which possibly originated in France or Burgundy, was constructed with a tail to protect the back of the head and neck. The version we've copied sits flush on a bevor, which protects the chin and throat. Worn this way, it's a helmet with good ventilation and visibility. The original is believed to be English and dates from about 1480. Our replica features the moveable visor and a bevor with falling buff like the original. Forged of 18-gauge steel, both the Salade and bevor are fully lined and wearable. Due to the continual mixing of styles of armor, you will find this a fitting helmet for our Gothic Cuirass as well.

Open Faced Salade Helmet

Ref: 300158-S
Preferred by crossbowmen, archers, spearmen and even cannoneers when rapidly developing firearms appeared on the battlefield. Infantry troops willingly sacrificed the extra protection of closed helmets for a better view and more air. (They needed more air than their mounted brothers in arms since foot combat was a whole body affair.) This pattern from about 1425 utilizes a tail with a fully articulated end lame to protect the neck. The half visor is tastefully shaped with scalloped cut-outs. An excellent reenactment or dress helmet. Liner with leather ties.

KEY FEATURES:
· Tail with fully articulated end lame
· Excellent reenactment/dress helm
· Liner with leather ties
